National park

Hutan Lipur Sungai Pandan (Sungai Pandan waterfall)

What’s there?

Hutan Lipur Sungai Pandan (Sungai Pandan waterfall) is a forest park located in Gambang, which is just roughly 30 minutes away from Kuantan town, or 2.5 hours away if you’re coming from Kuala Lumpur. This is one easily accessible waterfall that has a majestic waterfall lies within the park. To reach the waterfall, it just takes less than 10 minutes walk from the carpark, under the waterfall there is a huge pool, most parts of the waterfall is not too deep for an adult, the current is also not really strong thus its a perfect place to swim in a natural pool.

The park area is large enough for hundreds of people and the waterfall flows down to a wide but shallow river, plenty of space for everyone to play. If you’re looking for somewhere that is less crowded, it is best you come during weekdays.

Probably one of the cleanest forest park in Malaysia

This park shows us how all our forest parks need to be managed. The park is under Pahang state government but it is managed by a private company for over 16 years! Every weekend hundreds or even thousands of people visit this park but one thing you’ll notice the difference compared to most other forest park in Malaysia is the cleanliness of the park. Why? The park manager (Mr. Din) is really strict in handling trash. There are a few workers clearing the rubbish left behind by IRRESPONSIBLE VISITORS all the time and constantly emptying the bins. It is really sad to see those rubbish left behind even the bin is just literally 2 metres away, when will all Malaysians realize it is their own responsibility to clear their rubbish even there are no rubbish bin available? Nonetheless, we were really grateful for the effort of the park management team has put in.

The Campsite (and facilities)

Camping here only cost RM15 per person per night but Pre-booking is required. Additional RM3 parking fee will be collected (which is reasonable) upon entrance per car. The main entrance will be locked after 7:30pm so you don’t need to worry about your car. There are various spot for you to set up your tent, the ones near the waterfall are the best but space is quite limited due to its hilly condition. The forest is dense and has a natural canopy, good shade under the hot sun. One more thing that I found impressive is there are hardly any mosquitoes around, I’ve slept out in a hammock for 2 nights without a single mosquito bite!

Facilities here are really basic, there’s toilet and shower room, clean but damaged. There is also a Surau in the park for our Muslim friends. No electricity is available so make sure you bring enough powerbank and batteries. During the day there are a few food stalls around so if you’re lazy to cook there are some options for you as well.
